A Pilgrimage: Murudeshwara, Karnataka (India)

Murudeshwara is a small town approx 16 kms away from Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada. "Murudeshwara" is another name of God Shiva. The statue of Shiva here (picture below) is said to be the world's tallest Shiva statue. The huge 37 mtr statue dominates the landscape. The Shiva temple presents a picturesque view with the sea to the west, the lofty hills to the east and the coconut groves nearby. There is a huge Gopura as well. On the entrance to the Gopura stand two life-size elephants.
