The 38th UAE National Day - 2nd Dec 2009

We decided to spend this special day by visiting Fujairah, in the the Eastern Coast of the UAE.Fujairah is one of the seven emirates (states) that make up the United Arab Emirates.

We set off from Dubai via Sharjah. On the Sharjah/Fujairah highway a slight deviation towards your right stands the Sharjah Culture Capital Monument 1998 (pictured below)

After visiting above monument, it was thought to pay a visit to the surrounding village. Further taking deviation from the main highway, and entering into one of the villages, we were suddenly caught by surprise to see camels roaming around on our way (see picture below).

Further ahead we saw a small heap of rocks surrounded by small trees. A local Arab waved and greeted us in Arabic language.

It takes nearly 1hour 30 minutes to cover the distance of approx 130 kms from Dubai to Fujairah. Approaching Fujairah, I made a telephone call to RK, my friend, staying in Fujairah. He was very pleased to hear from me. He greeted us in Fujairah town and took us to the Fujairah Fort in downtown area. His friend Venny took the initiative to show the way to this historical place. Below you would see few pictures captured in the Fort area.

A thatched hut using palm leaves (below) reminded me of huts back home in Kerala using the coconut tree leaves.

The majestic Fujairah Fort. It is said to be built around 1670. It is a mud brick structure, considered to be the oldest fort in the UAE.
The Fort is being renovated and restored to its former glory.

The black mountains surrounding Fujairah (below).

You have to enter through the remains of an old village as you can see a lot of small huts and houses in damaged form. Therefore, surely there was a village existed.

We landed-up in Khorfakkan (below), a beach-town approx 20 kms away from Fujairah.

Finally, the return trip to Dubai...a memorable day to commemorate the UAE National Day!
